Alberta is a province of elevated mountains, open plains and beautiful forests. Alberta is the wealthiest province in Canada because of all it’s “black gold,” or oil. Oil is typically used to power automobiles and industries, and to make plastic, chemicals and paint. Alberta also produces about 80% of Canada’s natural gas. For people who live there, the natural gas industry means lower bills for the heat, but also means jobs and more money for the government. Albert’s second largest industry is agriculture. Most of the entire prairie is used as farmland. On the farms people raise crops such as wheat, oats, barley, canola, and peas and animals. Alberta is Canada’s second largest grain producer but farmers but farmers work hard to grow them in dry climate. Over 60% of Alberta is covered in forests and the forest industry here has 2 main parts. One is harvesting the trees and changing them into products. Tourism is also a great part of Alberta. Millions of people come from all over the world to see and experience Alberta’s culture. The tourism brings in about $5 billion a year!
